Girl Scouts celebrate World Thinking Day

Sembach and Kaiserslautern Girl Scouts got together Feb. 22 to celebrate World Thinking Day.

Every year, girl guides and Girl Scouts celebrate World Thinking Day. On this day, girls worldwide learn about different countries. Usually, each troop in a committee chooses a country and learns about that country’s customs and scouting. On or around Feb. 22, the troops gather and display what they have learned about their countries.

This year, Sembach and Kaiserslautern Girl Scouts came together to celebrate World Thinking Day. As girls checked in, they were given a “passport.”  The girls travelled from booth to booth, learning about different countries, their customs and current events, tasting foods from each country and collecting SWAPs. Some of the different countries were Mexico, Egypt, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Guyana. As the girls visited a booth, they had their passport stamped, marking the countries they travelled through. After everyone had visited each country, some troops presented skits or songs from their country. A troop of girls presented a skit on why the sun and moon live in the sky, a story native to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Another troop taught the group of girls a Japanese song.

When asked what their favorite part of World Thinking Day was, the answers varied from “tasting different foods” to “learning about different countries” to “having fun with my friends.” World Thinking Day is a great opportunity for girls to learn about other countries while having fun and eating food.
