Ramstein Air Base became an overflow base for Military Airlift Command operations at Rhein-Main Air Base in the build-up for Operation Desert Shield, to help support the build-up of the operation in the Persian Gulf War. Ramstein also became an intermediate engine repair facility for deployed F-16 aircraft and a collection and distribution center for gulf-bound munitions.Photo by www.army.mil
