Jan. 15, 1991, the 316th Air Division Clinic’s Aeromedical Staging Facility activated a 150-bed hospital and blood transshipment center in Hangar 1 on Ramstein Air Base. The Staging Facility received  their first patients from the Persian Gulf during Operation DESERT SHIELD and the air campaign Operation DESERT STORM, which would begin Jan. 17, 1991.
