Hitscherhof celebrates first Christmas market

Hitscherhof’s first-ever Christmas market takes place today and tomorrow. The market countess of Sickinger Land, Jasmin Klein, with the help of Princess Aileen from the carnival association Donsieders, Santa Claus and the student’s group of the music association Muenchweiler will officially open the event tonight at 6 p.m.

Vendors offer handcrafted products such as jewelry, glass lanterns, beads, wooden toys, chain saw art and Christmas decorations and cribs.

Visitors can enjoy Palatinate culinary delicacies including pumpkin soup, pumpkin waffles, hot chocolate, Christmas-sweetened popcorn, pizza, and sausages. Another popular Palatinate specialty is “Saumagen.” The dish is similar to a sausage made of pork meat, potatoes and spices and is boiled in a pig’s stomach. Gluehwein and whiskey will also be offered.

The Hitscherhof farm shop will also offer a variety of pumpkin products.

Young visitors’ entertainment includes a bouncy castle and beds of straw in the barn. Santa Claus will appear and hand out little surprises tonight at 6 p.m. and tomorrow between 4 and 6 p.m.

The Christmas market will be open 5 to 10 p.m. today, and 3 to 10 p.m. tomorrow.
