It’s shopping time!

The 45th annual Ramstein Welfare Bazaar, hosted by the Ramstein Officers’ Spouses’ Club and sponsored by the 86th Services Squadron, will take place Sept. 17 to 20 in Ramstein’s Hangar 1 and 2.

“This year we have over 130 vendors from all over Europe and Asia, and there is something for everyone,” said Karolina Wignall, 2009 bazaar chair. “And when you need a break from shopping, stop by our food court where you’ll find 24 food vendors with a variety of culinary options to choose from. I really think the most rewarding aspect about the bazaar is knowing that all the proceeds go back into the KMC community.”

This bazaar is truly a community event that benefits the community.

“We had 25,000 shoppers who spent $2.2 million, and ROSC raised $275,000 – 100 percent of which is given back to the military community through welfare grants and donations,” said Andy Cobb, ROSC president. “We also join forces with KLSA and RESA (two other local spouse groups) to give scholarships to eligible high school seniors, college students and spouses of KMC active-duty persons.”

Shoppers this year will have a lot to look forward to with vendors from various countries selling items such as pottery, original artwork, linens, toys, candies, cheeses, jewelry, clothes, furniture and antiques.

The bazaar will also feature a food court and entertainment stage. Base organizations sponsoring food booths will be selling all kinds of culinary delights, and various groups, acts and performances will entertain shoppers.

The Kaiserslautern High School Band, Ramstein Elementary School kindergarten, Irish dancers, Vogelweh Gospel Choir, Puddin’ Pants and Ballet Folklorico are some of the acts already on the schedule.

The ROSC is also asking for volunteers to donate baked goods, to help in the business and finance offices and to prepare and distribute snacks for vendors and volunteers in the hospitality suite. Volunteers working a four hour shift or donating 10 dozen baked goods qualify for VIP shopping on Thursday morning before the bazaar officially opens.

“In 2008, over 1,000 volunteers from the Ramstein community donated their time to the bazaar, and we also received donations of thousands of cookies and finger foods to keep our volunteers nourished,” Mr. Cobb said.

Bazaar hours are from noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 17; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 18 and 19; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20. Thursday and Friday are stroller friendly days. A Kinder Korner in the Red Cross Tent will provide mothers and fathers with a place to take care of infants and toddlers. No pets are allowed on the bazaar grounds.
