K-Town hosts first Halloween parade

The city of Kaiserslautern and the local advertising association “Kaiser in Lautern” sponsor the first Halloween city parade in Europe Oct. 31.

The parade starts at 5 p.m. at Barbarossa Castle (next to city hall), leads through the center of town on Schneider-, Markt-, Kerst-, Pirmasenser-, Richard-Wagner- and Fruchthallstrasse and then back to Maxstrasse. Anybody interested can watch or walk in the parade wearing Halloween costumes or participate in a special Halloween-decorated vehicle.

Those with vehicles can win up to €3,000 for the most amazing vehicle, but they need to register in advance and pay a fee of €50. Groups with more than 10 people who want to take part in the best costume or most unique pumpkin contest also must register for €10. For details, visit  www.werbegemeinschaft-kl.de or call 0631-365-3425.

Throughout the day there will be activities highlighting Halloween and pumpkins. At 10 a.m., a family and children’s program with pumpkin carving, crafting and paining will start in the center of town. Various music ensembles, percussion groups and marching bands will perform.

After the Halloween parade, activities will continue with spooky food and drinks and a live band around the castle.
