The local sales promotion agency called “Kaiser in Lautern” will sponsor, in cooperation with the city of Kaiserslautern, a fest with an international musical program featuring swing, jazz, soul, blues and rock.

The streets downtown as well as places such as Altenhof, Schillerplatz and Stiftsplatz will turn into open-air stages presenting various musicians and bands such as the Jazzpolizei, Sabrina and the Bakerboys, From da Soul, Uptown Shufflers, Rock ‘n’ Roll Flamingos and Top Dogs.

“Swinging Lautern” will officially start 6 p.m. Thursday at Altenhof and continues from 11 a.m. to midnight Sept. 2 and 3.

The U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa Band will be part of the swinging event as well. The Wings of Dixie will perform from noon to 3 p.m. Sept.2 on the stage near Stiftskirche, and The Ambassadors will entertain the audience from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 3 on Stiftsplatz.

A kiddie train will give children free rides through the center.

In Fackelstrasse, a balloon artist will create figures and a jumping castle and face painting will lure children. A fairy tale merry-go-round will be available in Marktstrasse.

Stores will provide special attractions to include fashion shows presenting the latest fall and winter collections, a flea market for dishes and house accessories and information stands.

Visitors can taste all kinds of culinary specialties from different countries around Stiftskirche, on Schillerplatz and Altenhof.

A pocket brochure listing the entertaining program is available at the Kaiserslautern Tourist Information office in Fruchthallstrasse, in stores and restaurants, or at www.werbegemeinschaft-kl.de.
