“Swinging Lautern” will be the motto of Kaiserslautern’s annual Barbarossa fest Thursday through Sept. 7 in the center of town.

For the 11th year, the local sales promotion agency “Kaiser in Lautern” will sponsor, in cooperation with the City of Kaiserslautern, a fest with an international musical program featuring swing, blues, boogie, jazz, soul and salsa.

The streets downtown, as well as on Altenhof, Schillerplatz and Stiftsplatz in town, will turn into open-air stages presenting various musicians and bands. “Swinging Lautern” will officially start at 6 p.m. Thursday near Stiftskirche and continue from 11 a.m. to midnight Sept. 6 and 7.

The U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa band will be part of the swinging event as well. The Ambassadors will play from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 6 on the Stiftsplatz, and Wings of Dixie will entertain the audience starting at 11 a.m. Sept. 7 on Altenhof.

A kiddie train will give children free rides through the center of town. A balloon artist will create figures on Schillerstrasse, and a bouncy castle and face painting will lure children to Fackelstrasse. The Siegelbach zoo will set up a petting zoo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 7 on Unionstrasse.
