Office closures

  • The KMC Housing Office and Furnishings Management Section will close at 11:30 a.m. Thursday due to training.
  • The KMC Housing Office and Furnishings Management Section will be closed Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 in observation of the holidays.

Recycling center moves

The Ramstein Recycling Center will close Monday. It is scheduled to reopen Dec. 19 at a new location across from the annex of the Ramstein Southside Fitness Center.

Blood drive

The Armed Services Blood Program-Europe will be conducting the following blood drives:

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at the Kleber Kaserne Fitness Center, Bldg. 235
  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Hall of Champions Fitness Center, Bldg. 8105, in Baumholder
  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center food court
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 28 at Landstuhl Heaton Auditorium

Tree cutting near high school

The State Forest Department has begun to conduct tree cutting at the edge of the forest along the Ramstein High School parking lot and West Virginia Lane. Tree cutting will be conducted in four phases and take until spring 2017. The jogging path will be impacted and the parking lot will be partially closed.

Speakers association meets

Ramstein Toastmasters will meet from noon to 1 p.m. every first, second and third Tuesday of the month at Ramstein South Chapel, Bldg. 2403. Individuals who want to develop their public speaking skills are welcome to visit the meetings free of charge. Participants can prepare for board interviews, promotional ceremonies or leadership roles. Public speaking skills or aspirations can be advanced and enhanced. Polizei conduct controls

During the holiday season, German Polizei will be conducting an increased number of traffic controls and DUI checks. They recommend that those drinking alcohol at Christmas parties or enjoying gluehwein at Christmas markets should use public transportation or call a taxi for their own and others’ safety. In 2015 during this season, 179 actions had to be taken in the Kaiserslautern area because motorists were intoxicated. Sixty-three of them had to face a criminal charge, and there were 58 preliminary proceedings due to drug consumption.

Christmas trees to cut

Some forestry offices offer special tree cutting dates. The Donnersberg Forestry Office scheduled two events: 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at 67722 Hoeringen, direction Wackenbornerhof; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. near Retzbergweiher pond at 67677 Sippersfeld.

The Kaiserslautern Forestry Office will offer tree cutting from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 17 near the Stiftswald forest house on Velmanstrasse.

Another tree cutting event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 17 in Stelzenberg, Lindenstrasse 35.

Food and beverages will be served at each event. Customers are asked to bring a handsaw or ax. Forest office employees will pack the trees in nets for proper transportation.

A tree selling event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 18 in Landstuhl’s Breitenwald, near the U.S. radar station on county road L470. Customers can choose freshly cut trees from the Landstuhl and Kaiserslautern forest areas.
