Closures

• In an effort to better serve the beneficiaries of the 86th Medical Group, the following is a forecast of clinic closures due to U.S. holidays and mandatory training days: Thursday (MDG training day); Oct. 15 (Columbus Day); Nov. 11 (Veterans Day); Nov. 12 (MDG training day, closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.); Nov. 26 (Thanksgiving); Nov. 27 (Family Day); Dec. 10 (MDG training Day, closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.); Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve); Dec. 25 (Christmas); and Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve). This forecast will be amended when applicable. As the clinic improves its processes, they welcome customer feedback. To provide feedback, contact Maj. • The KMC Housing Office as well as the Furnishings Management Office will be closed Oct. 12 in observation of Columbus Day. Customer service hours will resume Oct. 13. On Oct. 14, both offices will close at
11:30 a.m. due to training. Customer service hours will resume Oct.15.

• Galaxy Avenue will experience half-road closures to repair portions of the roadway followed by full closures. The construction will occur in phases: the south half Oct. 21 to Nov. 4 and the north half Nov. 5 to 18. Full closures will occur on the south half Nov. 4 and the north half on Nov. 18. Traffic will be detoured toward Maxwell and Harmon avenues. The reconstruction is needed to improve roadway safety and replace aging pavement. Slight traffic delays in the immediate area may be expected. Motorists should plan accordingly and exercise extreme caution due to proximity of heavy construction traffic.

No more midnight meals

Due to critical manpower restraints, the Rheinland Inn Dining Facility no longer offers midnight meal service. All personnel requiring ground meal support may utilize the Jawbone Flight Kitchen on Ramstein, Bldg. 3332. The Rheinland Inn DFAC hours of operation are as follows: breakfast 6 to 8 a.m.; lunch 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; dinner 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, call the Rheinland Inn Dining Facility Manager at 480-3416 or the Food Service Section at 480-1738.

ROP Line updated

The Ramstein Out-Processing Line will be consolidating a phase 1 and 2 schedule into one briefing. The new schedule will begin 8:30 a.m. Monday. The ROP briefing is designed to assist members with their transition from Ramstein to their new duty location. This briefing is most beneficial if members attend six months from their date of estimated return from overseas and/or at the time of assignment notification, whichever is earlier. ROP is held every Monday at 8:30 a.m. ROP is not held during shortened weeks due to a holiday or family day. No preregistration is required. Purse, scarf swap meet

The Cancer Association Rheinland-Pfalz will sponsor, in observation of breast cancer awareness month, a “Pink Party” from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday in the Edith-Stein-Haus in Kaiserslautern. The free after-work Pink Party under the motto “women against breast cancer” will feature a purse and scarf swap meet. Females are asked to donate valuable purses and scarves, and in turn they can buy secondhand ones at the meet for €1 each. All proceeds will go to the Cancer Association. Donations can be dropped off at the Cancer Association’s office, Gersweilerweg 14a in Kaiserslautern.

Fire Prevention Week

The Ramstein Air Base Fire Prevention Team and AAFES Exchange Loss Prevention will celebrate Fire Prevention Week from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center food court. The event will feature a fire prevention trailer, fire extinguisher training, Sparky the fire dog and weather permitting, a bouncy castle.

Free winter safety checks

A German automobile club and AAFES Exchange Loss Prevention will offer free vehicle winter safety checks from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 13 to 15 at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center. Customers can choose two of the following inspection items: light test, antifreeze check, tire check, brake fluid check, battery test or alternator test.

Retiree dental appointments

Military dental clinics in the KMC will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 15 to serve military retirees with a Blue U.S. uniformed services I.D. card. Minor extractions and fillings will be provided on a case-by-case basis.
