In the KMC, there is a teacher who is inspiring the current and future leaders of the world. Her name is Suzanne Volke and she teaches history at Ramstein High School.

Volke’s students have gone above and beyond in their community outreach and international charity efforts. Because of her support, love of sharing knowledge, her conviction that change is possible, and her ability to inspire, these students are changing the world, one person at a time. She has become the faculty sponsor for a group called the Socialist Discussion Group which is achieving brilliant goals. These students have founded a group to discuss and share their ideas about how the economy and market interact with people, how people are valued in the marketplace and how people have agency. These students have come together to facilitate, inform and engage dialogues and actions based on their beliefs. This wouldn’t have been possible without Volke’s encouragement and support.

In October 2014, Volke’s students held a donation drive for the Ebola victims in Liberia. In September 2015, they held a donation drive for the Syrian refugees. In between, they have sponsored canned food drives to support the local homeless and impoverished in the community. Volke and her students have truly touched lives. They have gone above the intentions of doing something good and actually made it happen – sustainably. This group of young people have truly demonstrated they are they are givers, doers and thinkers and deserve every accolade accorded them. Their food donations have fed the hungry; their clothing donations have clothed the naked; their outreach has cheered the distraught; their actions have made them into local and international heroes. This incredible precedent bodes for their futures as proactive, engaged adults who care about the world around them and actually do something about it.

If you are interested in helping out Volke’s class, you can support these students, support their efforts and show them that their community cares for them and their causes by dropping off donations at RHS in Volke’s classroom. Along with helping out for a great cause, you can also congratulate Volke for being a brilliant, treasured asset to her classroom, her school and community. For more information on donating, contact Suzanne Volke at Suzanne.Volke@eu.dodea.edu.

The KMC community would like to give a hearty congratulations to Volke and her students and their many successes. These students have benefited their own immediate community, but have also blessed the international community as well.
