The Kaiserslautern Military Community Center’s southwest entrance parking lot on Ramstein reopened shortly after a final acceptance check Sept. 11. While construction was initially to repair the infrastructure of the parking lot, the 86th Civil Engineer Squadron took the opportunity to widen the parking spots by approximately half a meter each.

The 86th Civil Engineer Squadron prepared the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center’s southwest parking lot for final acceptance Sept. 11.

During the final acceptance, 86th CES, 86th Contracting Squadron, and the contractor went over the completed work to ensure the quality before signing the final paperwork and reopening the parking lot.

“The final acceptance on Monday went great,” said Werner Fess, 86th CES project manager. “The parking lot was opened to drivers immediately afterward.”

Construction started on the structure to repair damages due to years of varying weather conditions that eventually created deformations in the parking lot. While the repairs were being made, the 86th CES decided to take the opportunity to increase the width of the parking spaces in the lot.

“In the past we’ve had a few complaints about the width of the parking spaces in this parking lot,” said Fess. “We took this time to increase the width of parking spaces from 2.40 meters to 2.75 meters.”

While the update to the size of parking spaces allows for better accessibility for vehicles, it also decreases the number of total spaces available in the lot by 20.

It is recommended that drivers pay attention to signs and markings to prevent accidents in the area.
