LEMS assistant principal tops in DODDS-Europe

Haddad, Landstuhl Elementary and Middle School assistant principal, has been selected as the Department of Defense Dependent Schools–Europe Assistant Principal of the Year for the elementary and middle school level. Mr. Haddad, the assistant principal at LEMS for the past five years, was selected from nominees across Europe.

Mr. Haddad said he chose education as a profession because he was inspired by his own teachers.

“I had some great high school teachers as role models,” Mr. Haddad said. “In addition to their encouragement, I felt a natural draw to the process of both learning and teaching.”

Diana Ohman, Director of DODDS-Europe, notified Mr. Haddad of his selection and congratulated him on the exceptional support and commitment to LEMS.

Mr. Haddad will now compete for the Department of Defense Education Activity’s Assistant Principal of the Year award. But, for Mr. Haddad, it’s about the students, he said.

“Years later, I realize that giving your best to each moment in a student’s life is what it is all about,” he said. “Sometimes one gets immediate feedback and years later a letter might come telling you what a difference you made in someone’s life.”

Each nominee was evaluated in areas of commitment, professional activities, student and colleague respect, maintaining an orderly and purposeful learning environment, communication and listening abilities, and daily connection with the operation of the schoolhouse and student learning goals. The DODDS-Europe Selection Board found Mr. Haddad excelled in all areas.
