Life in the fashion

Camisoles, capris and clutches this season’s must-haves

It is almost time to get in your car, open the sun roof, slip on your favorite designer sunglasses and listen to Will Smith’s “Summertime.” Yes, it is that time of year. Move your sweaters and wool slacks out of the closet and make room for your spring attire.

***image1***Those living in the KMC may not have mega malls like in the U.S., but there is a fair share of shopping within the area, endless varieties of fashion on the Internet and let’s not forget that if you have the time, you can take a Space A trip to the East Coast for a shopping extravaganza. But don’t forget that picking up fashion elements from your current environment always makes you unique.

You may not like the local fashion in Germany, but incorporating a few of the things you do like into your current closet will make you European chic and your friends back home may even pick up on the style.

Keeping your closet up-to-date is sometimes more overwhelming than it needs to be. There are a lot of classics that you can add to your closet and use summer after summer while avoiding old trends that have passed. For this spring, make sure you’ve got these
essentials:

Bows – The dainty bows are in for your footwear and out for every other piece of clothing. Bows are especially hot on stiletto heels that have ribbons that wrap around the calf or on the top of plain pumps.

Shorts – Jean shorts are out, especially cut-off shorts. Cotton shorts in solid, natural colors are in. Petite cargo pockets, tied sides and jewel embellishments only help your cotton shorts become a bit more stylish than they already are.

Bridesmaid dresses –
We all have them! Take your bridesmaid dresses and cut them up. Make a camisole, wraparound skirt or shorten the dress to above the knee and make it something you would wear again. Admit it − you aren’t going to wear them how they are now and they are taking up valuable room in your closet.

Clutch – Ditch your chunky purses and grab your sleek clutch. The bags may only fit a few bills, credit cards and maybe a slim cell phone, but they give you a sophisticated look and don’t block your figure from anybody’s view. Clutches can run super-cheap to very expensive. Look for fun materials to include beads, sequins and tweed.

Capris –These short pants made a comeback about a decade ago and they are not leaving anytime soon. They come in just about every color and fabric. Every lady needs a sleek black pair with some type of flap pockets, drawstring waist or embroidered detail.

Skirts − The light, flowing, above-the-knee skirts are in, whether it is a cover-up at the beach or worn to a friend’s barbecue. Popular skirts are linen and cotton with embroidered flowers, side ties or a drawstring waist. Board shorts are out and should only be worn by surfer girls catching waves.

Every lady needs a black cocktail dress. It is a timeless piece of clothing that can be used at a wedding, funeral, late-night soirée or hot date. Make sure the dress fits you well, doesn’t have any trendy features that would date stamp it and match it up with the appropriate jewelry for the occasion whether it is a string of pearls, chunky costume jewelry or a tightly-tied silk scarf.

***image4***Camouflage – Military-styled patterns are hot this spring, including the original BDU colors as well as the pink pattern.
Watch for camouflage tank tops and fitted cammo capris. Do not cut off baggy BDU pants and pass them off as capris.

Camisoles − Just like last spring, we are layering solid color camisoles to give outfits some color. You can layer two or three on top of each other and most of these tops retail for only $5 to $10.

By just adding a few new articles into your closet, you can refresh
your look for this spring. Here’s to hoping for a warm, sunny spring
for all of you fashionistas out there in the KMC.
