The Wounded Warrior Project and Red Cross will offer “Heroes, Horses and Hounds,” noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Rothenbergerhof in Kaiserslautern. Participants will learn about equine therapy and how service dogs support military members. The event is free, for government ID card holders ages 16 and older and part of disability awareness month. The German Shepherd Dog Club Kaisers-lautern will offer a night hike for dogs and owners at 6 p.m. Saturday at their clubhouse, Kniebrech 1 in Kaiserslautern. On the trail, hikers and dogs will meet numerous scary figures such as monsters and witches. Dog owners will see how their pets react. After the hike, participants will meet in the clubhouse, share their experience and enjoy food in a spooky atmosphere. Tickets for the hike cost €7 without costume and €5 with costume. Shabach International Outreach Ministry will sponsor a benefit concert, “Harvest of Praise,” at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Landstuhl Stadthalle. Entry fee is donations of coffee, cans of food, baby items. Guided tours of the Abbey Church in Otterberg, in German, will be offered the first Sunday of each month. Interested participants will meet at 2:30 p.m. at the main entrance of the church. The one-hour long tour costs €3.
The old smithy in Otterberg, Kirchstrasse, will be open to the public at 4 p.m. every first Saturday of the month. Admission is free.
The museum in Otterberg, which is located in the tourist information office, Hauptstrasse 54, is open during 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, and 3 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free.
The Rheinland Pfalz International Choir has begun a drive to bring 15 new singers into the choir, both men and women, by the end of September. The choir will perform the Brahms Requiem Nov. 26 in the Fruchthalle, a Choralforum Concert Dec. 3 in the Marienkirche, and the USAFE Band Christmas Concert Dec. 8 in the Fruchthalle. KMC Onstage
GHOST STORY THEATER: On Nov. 3 and 4, KMC Onstage invites you to join us as actors tell ghost stories around the campfire. Thanksgiving Brunch: Celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends at Armstrong’s Club. Rheinland Pfalz Quilt Guild will meet for its monthly guild meeting Wednesday in the KMCC multipurpose room (adjacent to food court). Children’s Halloween Carnival: On October 31, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Baumholder Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation presents a Children’s Halloween Carnival in conjunction with Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers. Enjoy 13 booths with spooky activities for only $0.25 per ticket, or 10 tickets for $2. Feast on nachos, cotton candy, popcorn, and witches brew, or try your luck at winning a sweet treat in our cakewalk. Compete in our pre-carved pumpkin contest, with divisions for children 5 to 11 and 12 to 18. Be crowned the winner of the scariest, prettiest, or most creative costume.
