A project will start Monday to repair the asphalt on Maxwell Avenue between Kisling Memorial Drive (Burger King) and Virginia Boulevard (Child Development Center).

Delays should be expected when traveling in this area. The road will be completely closed to traffic Oct. 13. It is recommended to bypass this area via Lincoln Boulevard and New York Avenue. Completion of work is projected for Oct. 17. Work will be done by the 435th CES Programs Flight, 480-9043.

The construction project on Mitchell Avenue near the flightline will be completed soon and the traffic pattern will be changed permanently.

The project will change the priority roads at Fairchild and Mitchell, Arnold Circle and near Hangar 2 (Bldg. 2291). Stop signs will be removed at two locations and four new yield signs placed.

Mitchell Avenue will also have a new drop arm barrier installed, so vehicles requiring flightline access will need to use the Arnold Circle entry control point. Call the 435th CES Project Management Section at 480-6486 for details.

As I was attending this year’s POW/MIA flag raising ceremony, I thought about the significance of that particular ceremony. Afterward, I began to think about all the
different ceremonies we conduct in the Air Force. We have ceremonies to recognize achievements, such as promotions, decorations and retirements.

Retreat is another important ceremony; its purpose is to mark the end of the duty day and, more importantly, to show respect for our nation’s flag.  Ceremonies are part of our rich military heritage and help distinguish us as members of the profession of arms. Whenever you take part in a ceremony, whether as a participant or an observer, take the time to reflect on its meaning.
