Military memorial service planned for Thursday for 230th MP Co. Soldier


A military memorial service for Staff Sgt. James R. Ide V, 32, of Festus, Mo., is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Vogelweh Chapel in Kaiserslautern. Sergeant Ide died of wounds sustained Aug. 29 when his unit was attacked with small arms fire near Hyderabad, Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Sergeant Ide was assigned to the 230th Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command in Sembach, Germany, in November 2008. He deployed to Afghanistan as a specialized search dog handler in April as part of Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force — Afghanistan.

Sergeant Ide is survived by his wife, Mandy, their son, James, 1, and their daughter, Trinity, 7, who all live in Miesau, Germany.
