***image1***The Rheinland-Pfalz International Choir performs in three free concerts in the KMC over the next two weeks.

The highlight of the choir’s year comes first at 8 p.m. Dec. 7 when they will sing in the annual Christmas concert with the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Band in the Fruchthalle in Kaiserslautern.

Then, Dec. 8, the choir will perform at 7 p.m. at the Ramstein Northside Chapel.
Finally, Dec. 14, the choir will perform at 8 p.m. in the Stiftskirche Kaiserslautern.
This event is entitled “Christmas Carols – Christmas Songs and Stories in German and English,” followed by Christmas season refreshments served by the German-American and International Women´s Club.

Brian Jefferies and pastor Stefan Bergmann conduct readings in between the musical performances.

The choir is a mixed vocal group, men and women, Germans and Americans, who have been singing together for more than 20 years, since the group´s inception at Ramstein. The choir´s first director was Craig Jessup, who is now director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City, Utah. The choir has performed in Colorado, Berlin, Belgium and other locations.

The current director, Sam Alexander, has been in the position since January  2007.  He had just retired from teaching high school music in Kaiserslautern for 33 years.

During that time, he directed the music program at the Kaiserslautern American High School for 21 years, the Department of Defense Depedendents School-Europe Honor Chorus for 25 years, the Trippstadt Gospel Chorus for eight years, and the vocal program at Ramstein American High School for two years.

The selections of the choir include German and English classical and seasonal music, old popular standards, international folk music, and religious or spiritual music. Choral direction is in both German and English. New members are heartily welcome.  Rehearsals are 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the Protestant Church Community Hall in Kaiserslautern-Erzhütten, Erzhütterstrasse 68  (entrance leading to
1. Hockey Club restaurant).
