Musical spring takes place in Ramstein

***image1***Ramstein-Miesenbach’s culture center, Haus des Bürgers, sponsors its “15th Musical Spring” March 20 to April 4. The annual event features a variety of musical presentations.
“This year, we offer six performances to include two events for children,” said Gerhard Denzer, manager of the Haus des Bürgers.
Musical Spring 2004 starts with the tap and dance show “Fire of Dance” at 8 p.m. March 20. World-renowned soloists present highlights from “Riverdance,” “Lord of the Dance,” Abba’s “Mamma Mia” and the dance musicals “Grease” and “Fame.” Performers also dance to Irish ballads. Tickets cost 24, 27 and 30 EUR.
The family musical “Hänsel und Gretel,” in German, based on Engelbert Humperdinck’s opera, will be presented at 5 p.m. March 23. Tickets cost 4, 5 and 6 EUR for children and 6, 8 and 10 EUR for adults.
Stagione d”opera Italiana presents Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen” at 8 p.m. March 27. “Up to this date, people like this opera about love, hate and jealousy,” said Mr. Denzer. “Some dialogues will be presented in the French original version. Tickets cost 18, 21 and 24 EUR.
Children can watch “Die Schöne und das Biest,” (The Beauty and the Beast), in German, at 3 p.m. March 31. This children’s movie will be presented in the city library and costs 1 EUR.
The event continues with the musical “My Fair Lady” in German by Jay Lerner at 8 p.m. March 31. The story based on George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion” is about the speech professor Henry Higgins trying to educate the flower girl Eliza Doolittle. Tickets cost 17, 20 and 23 EUR.
Ramstein’s Musical Spring closes out with “Berlin – Leipziger Strasse,” a presentation of the Ensemble Villa Musica and two string players, known as the best ones in Germany. With their presentation they are trying to build a bridge from Berlin of Romantic period to the metropole of the “Golden Twenties” at 5 p.m. April 4. Tickets cost 8 EUR. Students pay 4 EUR.
