Network access made easy, secure with new SIPRNet hardware token

by Master Sgt. Dennis Palmer
86th Communications Squadron

The new Department of Defense mandated SIPRNet hardware token is available and will simplify the login process into SIPRNet computers.

The purpose of the SIPRNet hardware token is to replace the traditionally used username and password combination with a more secure user-specific personal identification number like the Common Access Card.

Once the process is implemented early next year, the SIPRNet hardware token will be the only way to gain access to the network.

While the token card itself is unclassified, it should be protected with the same care as your CAC.

The 86th Communications Squadron’s Wing Information Assurance Office has already started issuing token cards to Ramstein customers. In coordination with each unit’s IAO, the wing IA office is scheduling units a dedicated timeframe for priority service to receive the cards. It is very important that units take advantage of their scheduled time as card issuance is limited to about 70 per day. Units are currently scheduled through the end of the year and any unit missing their scheduled time may experience extended delays.

If you have questions on how to get your SIPRNet hardware token or about its usage, contact your unit information assurance officer.
