The one-day conference was open to all KMC members. More than 70 delegates throughout the KMC, as well as from Baumholder and Spangdahlem, attended the conference.
AWAG’s mission is to bring the host-nation and American people together to share ideas, network and receive personal and professional development, which in turns strengthens the community.

This year’s theme was “Working Together for Tomorrow,” and those who attended were challenged by all the speakers to find new ways to do “this or that” in their volunteer roles.

Guest speakers included representatives from the Air Force, the Army and the Federation of German-American Clubs.

“Some people see a glass half full, others see it half empty, volunteers see a glass and try to figure out who needs it,” said Chief Master Sgt. Angie Fleming, the 435th Mission Support Group and Military Personnel Flight superintendent, during opening ceremonies. “What you do for our community is impressive.”

Bruni Pütz, Federation of German-American Clubs in Kaiserslautern, spoke during lunch and thanked the Americans for bringing up the question of how we can work together.
“It is my biggest concern, how we will work together in the future. Germans and Americans have differences and yet, there are similarities in values in our cultures. It is possible to make progress for our two countries if we work together.”

Training sessions offered to delegates this year included topics such as group dynamics, volunteer resume writing, communication and listening skills, fundraising for Air Force and Army private organizations, living a military-spouse lifestyle, scholarships, dealing with conflict through mediation, traveling in Europe, women’s health issues and Alpine adventures.

Any person who belongs to a registered club or private organization that supports AWAG can attend their conferences.
There are no membership dues required.

Krista L. Dana, Ramstein Officers’ Spouses Club volunteer, has been to several AWAG trainings and presented “All-Seasons Alpine Adventures” at this conference.
“AWAG brings together volunteer leaders from all over Europe and from all walks of military life,” she said.

Staged each year in fall and spring, AWAG’s conferences offer unmatched opportunity for volunteer leadership training and inter-organizational networking.
The annual spring conference, which will be held the first week in May, will be held at the new Armed Forces Recreation Center Edelweiss Resort.
