The month of October is recognized as Energy Action Month throughout U.S. government agencies including the Air Force. Energy Action Month is a reminder of the importance energy plays in conserving Air Force resources.

Throughout the month, the Air Force highlights ways Airmen and their families can make more energy-conscious decisions. Ramstein Energy Management said these include turning off lights, limiting the time vehicles idle, shutting down unnecessary appliances and equipment when not in use, conserving water, and observing energy efficient behavior on the job.

Ramstein Energy Management said practicing energy-aware choices both on and off base in the KMC can have a significant impact on reducing energy demand such as:

  • Conserving water by restricting your showers to seven liters per minute.
  • Using 220-volt appliances instead of transformers or adapters.
  • Switching from incandescent bulbs to LED or other energy efficient lighting.
  • Using natural sunlight instead of conventional lighting.
  • Cutting heating costs by closing blinds and avoiding any obstructions near the heater as objects near heaters absorb and block warmth meaning more energy and time is needed to warm a room.

By making small changes to daily routines, the cost of water and electricity could see a significant reduction for both the service members and tax payers.

To submit innovative ideas and observations contact the local energy department on Ramstein at 480-3723 or 06371-47-3723.
