In October, 31 Air Force and Department of State Post Offices throughout U.S. Air Forces in Europe will celebrate the 30th annual National Stamp Collecting Month and USAFE’s 16th year of participation.

Air post offices will give away more than $25,000 in free commemorative and philatelic products to postal patrons throughout the command.

“Stamp collecting has been called ‘the king of hobbies and the hobby of kings,’” said Lionel Rivera, USAFE postal branch public affairs officer. “It is one of the world’s most popular hobbies and one that brings joy to young and old alike, no matter what their station in life. It is a fascinating pastime that is both educational and entertaining, and it is fitting that we spotlight it with special recognition during the month of October.

“The highlight of this program, of course, will be the free philatelic products,” Rivera added.

This year participating post offices will give away several philatelic items, including most of “The Art of Disney” series such as Imagination, Mickey Mouse, Magic Post Cards, Books & Prints. The Captain America Print, Marvel Stamp kit, Sunday Funnies Keepsake, Simpsons, Lunar Landing 40th Anniversary, Afghanistan Framed Art, and more will also be included.

Participating post offices will host a variety of programs involving communities, schools and children ages 8 to 12. Check with your local postmaster to see which programs are available.
