Party at the library

The Ramstein Library received new special needs resources and is throwing a party with the Exceptional Family Member Program.

Join us for an afterschool EFMP-Library Resource Party from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Ramstein Library. The party will feature a story time, refreshments, crafts, giveaways and Pedro, the therapy dog.

Pedro listens to children while they read out loud, reducing some of the anxiety of learning to read. During the party, families can meet Pedro and sign up for a time slot to read to Pedro during a future visit.

The new resources are available to families, teachers and young people considering careers in helping people with special needs. To reserve your spot at the party, call the Ramstein Airman & Family Readiness Center at 480-5100/5900 or 06371-47-5100/5900.

After marking your calendar, consider other resource needs, because the Ramstein Library has something for everyone.

• Check out a book or download an e-book to a reader or iPad.

• Don’t have a reader? Check out a netbook, tablet or Sony reader.

• Check out a language CD or learn the language online with Transparent Language or Mango.

The EFMP is designed to provide support to military family members with special needs.

The medical function provides identification, enrollment and clearance to ensure appropriate medical and educational services are available for family members before they PCS to a new location.

The family support function provides information, referrals and recreational events. The worldwide network of EFMP-Family Support offers transition assistance from installation to installation.

Ramstein EFMP-Family Support also recently partnered with the Ramstein Arts & Crafts Center to create the EFMP Adaptive Arts & Crafts Program. Families with special needs create and play together, while the Arts & Crafts Center does all the set up and clean up.

For more information on the next EFMP Adaptive Arts & Crafts activity or the Ramstein Exceptional Family Member Program, call 480-1742 or 06371-47-1742 or find us on Facebook by searching “Ramstein EFMP.”
