All commanders and senior raters are now receiving seven-day advanced notifications of assignments for their Airmen as part of an initiative which began Jan. 18 on Ramstein Air Base.
For pay grades of E-8 and below and O-5 and below, assignments will now go in advance to Military Personnel Flight who disseminate the information to unit commanders and senior raters seven days before the official notification to Airmen.
According to an Air Force Personnel Center Strategic Command message, the idea was identified after commanders discussed being unaware of the assignments being given to their Airmen.
“The process is bringing back the value of allowing the commanders to be more personable with their Airmen,” said Tech. Sgt. Tiffany Hilt, 786th Force Support Squadron NCOIC of base relocations. “With the Commander Advanced Notification process, it really lets the commanders be more hands on and involved.”
Commander’s responsibilities with this new process include verifying if any assignment ineligibility factors exist after receiving assignment notification and ensuring Airmen log into virtual MPF for their official assignment notification no later than seven calendar days after receipt of the notification email.
Airmen responsibilities include online acknowledgment of the official notification and verification of their military and personal email addresses on virtual MPF. Airmen may also request a projected departure date change through their supervisor and commander.
The seven-day period for commanders to meet with their Airmen about upcoming assignments is not intended to be a negotiation above already existing assignment rule sets.
The Air Force Personnel Center is ready for any unanticipated situations users may be experiencing and they encourage feedback throughout the introduction of this new process.
