Pfennig Bazaar to be held March 5 to 7

The German-American and International Women’s Club Kaiserslautern will hold its annual Pfennig Bazaar March 5 to 7 under the patronage of Kaiserslautern’s Lord Mayor Dr. Klaus Weichel.

This year, the 47th traditional Pfennig Bazaar will take place in a new location: the Burgherrenhalle on Forststrasse 2a, 67661 Kaiserslautern-Hohenecken.

“The Pfennig Bazaar is known as the most famous and biggest flea market in the Westpfalz area,” said bazaar chairwoman Pamela Miod. “Anybody planning on cleaning out closets and don’t know what to do with all their stuff can donate them to the Pfennig Bazaar.”

The community is asked to donate the following items in good condition: clean clothing, tablecloths, bed linens, shoes, household items, small working electrical appliances, toys, books, and more. Large furniture, mattresses, skis/ski shoes and other large size items will not be accepted.

Early donations can be dropped off from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 6 at the storage room located at Hackstrasse 4, Kaiserslautern. Call Elisabeth Heid at 0631-68850 to make a drop-off appointment on another date.

Donations can also be dropped off at the event location, Burgherrenhalle, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 27, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 1.

The GAIWC is a non-profit organization, and numerous local non-profit American and German organizations benefit from the Pfennig Bazaar. Last year, about €25,000 was distributed to different groups as well as local youth and student exchange programs.

“A successful bazaar depends on donations, volunteers and shoppers,” Mrs. Miod said. “It is not too early to inform us if you can be part of our bazaar team.”

The club needs help setting up and on sorting and sale days, from Feb. 25 to March 8. Anybody talented in baking can donate baked items from March 5 to 7.

“Working at the Pfennig Bazaar is hard work but is also a lot of fun and a very rewarding experience,” Mrs. Miod said. “We hope shoppers and volunteers will put the dates on their calendar and help us to have the best bazaar ever.”

To volunteer, call 06381-99-6868  or e-mail euroconn@hotmail.com.

The shopping dates and hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 5 and

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 6 and 7. For more information, visit the club’s Web site at www.gaiwc.com.
