Pilots from the 86th Airlift Wing, 76th Airlift Squadron and 37th Airlift Squadron attended a water survival refresher course March 23 at Baumholder Garrison. The course, taught by Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape specialists, instructed aircrews how recover from a water egress. All aircrews must go through this refresher course every 36 months.

Clockwise from top left, once aboard a 20-man raft, Capt. Sean Townsend, 76th AS, braces himself against simulated waves. A SERE specialist talks with Lt. Col. Stuart Weinberger, 86th AW, about his successful attempt to board a one-man raft. Pilots prepare a parachute for a simulation of an egress involving a parachute that has come down on top of a pilot.  A SERE specialist talks Capt. Cherie Griffin, 37th AS, and Captain Townsend through a helicopter water rescue.
