POW/MIA Day honors service sacrifices

The KMC recognition of POW/MIA Day will be Sept. 15. The following schedule will be observed:

 • 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. – POW/MIA Recognition Vigil at the River Rat Memorial at the Ramstein Officers’ Club takes place. Guest speaker will be Col. Rich Johnston, KMC and 86th Airlift Wing commander. The POW/MIA Flag will be flown; a volunteer sentry will watch over this post for 12 hours.
 • 7 to 8:30 a.m. – A POW/MIA memorial breakfast takes place at the Ramstein Officers’ Club. A memorial table will be placed in the front of the room in a position of honor.  The event will center on paying respect and remembering those who have not been accounted for. Guest speaker will be Brig. Gen. Danny K. Gardner, Director of Installations and Mission Support, HQ USAFE. The menu includes a large breakfast spread.  Tickets are $7.95 for members and $9.95 for non-members, and can be purchased through units’ first sergeants by today.
 • 4:30 to 5 p.m. – A Retreat Ceremony will be conducted at the NCO Academy Parade grounds on Kapaun. All KMC members are welcome. Guest speaker and presiding officer will be Col. Earl Matthews, 38th Combat Support Wing commander. Some formations will include members dressed in DCUs to represent a country still at war.
