Ramstein clinic: Safer traffic flow, more parking

The 435th Medical Group has announced a significant safety improvement initiative, which began Monday.

In the first of three phases, the 435th MDG will upgrade the parking lot between Bldg. 2114, where the pharmacy, pediatrics and immunization clinics are located, and Bldg. 2121, where flight medicine, mental health and optometry are located.

“We will add a clearly marked walkway between Bldgs. 2114 and 2121,” said clinical engineer Horst Lutz. “Our plan is to provide our patients with a safe way in which to walk between our facilities, while not significantly impacting our parking lots.”

“The parking area as it currently exists is comprised of two traffic circles with about 90 parking spaces,” said Maj. Ron Merchant, medical logistics flight commander. “When our project is complete in early February, we will have a much safer single traffic flow through the parking areas while adding an additional 15 patient parking spaces,” he said.

During the three phases, there will be times when portions of the parking lots will close to customer traffic to allow for safe construction efforts, he said. The clinic recommends parking adjacent to the bowling center, behind Bldg. 2114 or alongside Bldg. 2121. Weather permitting, the entire project will take about three months to complete.
