Both Ramstein and Kaiserslautern had strong showings at a four-team volleyball jamboree at Ramstein on Sept. 7. They were joined at the scrimmage by Black Forest Academy and Stuttgart.

For the host Royals, captains Erin Bailey, Casey McCullom and Kay Golden gave Ramstein the leadership they were looking for, combining for the most points and assists. Assistant Coach Osvaldo Garcia-Carillo said the jamboree gave the coaches a chance to see what the young Royals team could do in game action. They have seven freshmen, three sophomores and two juniors on their roster. Garcia-Carillo cited the stellar defense played by freshmen MyLeah Guy and Amarilis Cortes and that Kaiserslautern looked extremely strong.
Kaiserslautern coach Aaron Scalise said he and his staff were also able to see a variety of good things from their young team. He mentioned team unity as a big asset and the fact that they played very well throughout the jamboree, especially against Black Forest Academy. Scalise said they were especially pleased with freshman Xin Ai Robinson.

Sophia Sobczak prepares to spike the point for Ramstein. The Royals competed in a four-team jamboree to start the season.

The two teams meet again this weekend in Kaiserslautern on Friday night and Saturday morning in a three team round robin. The third team involved will be league opponent Vilseck.
