Ramstein takes all-Europe softball honors

The Ramstein Ram’s Varsity Softball Club dominated the 2010 U.S. Forces-Europe slow-pitch softball tournament Aug. 18 to 22 in Grafenwöhr, Germany. The men’s team took top honors among 11 U.S. military teams from throughout Europe after defeating Lakenheath 16-6 in the championship game.

But winning isn’t anything new to the Ramstein team, said head coach Master Sgt. Jason Acre, who touted the team’s impeccable stats over the last year.

“Our record for this season is 68-3 and 9-for-10 in tournaments in Europe,” Sergeant Acre said, “Over the years, Ramstein has had many great teams in various sports and has always had a tradition of winning.”

Individual honors went to the following Ramstein members: MVP, Staff Sgt. Travis Shoffner; All-tournament selections, Master Sergeants Kurt Tom, Mark Noll and Shane Byrd, and Staff Sergeants Justin James and Travis Shoffner.

This event marked the last official tournament of the year for the team, however they are planning a fall softball tournament fundraiser Oct. 15 to 17 to honor a former Ram’s member who recently died.
