‘Restaurant: Impossible’ spirit brought to Ramstein’s Rheinland Inn DFAC

The importance of a good meal cannot be understated. There’s something about sitting down to a plate that’s been thoughtfully made. The aroma pulls you in first, setting the tone before you’ve even taken a bite. This past Sunday was when that importance was made clear at the Rheinland Inn Dining Facility.

Professional Chef and host of Food Network’s show “Restaurant: Impossible,” Robert Irvine, recently visited Ramstein AB and specifically the Rheinland Inn DFAC making an appearance in the kitchen with some new meals as well.

For Irvine’s charitable work and service on numerous USO tours, Irvine has received several civilian honors and received the Medal of Honor Society’s Bob Hope Award.

This event, which was brought about through the efforts of Armed Forces Entertainment, granted 15 Airmen the opportunity to get acquainted with a more efficient way of working the line, different aspects of cooking and the chance to meet Irvine. Additionally, throughout the event 230 patrons from the KMC were served.

“The team learned advanced culinary techniques that could easily be incorporated into daily operations for cooking in large quantities,” said Tech. Sgt. Cory Howard, 786th FSS Jawbone Flight Kitchen manager. “These will enhance food flavor profiles while still maintaining a Go-4-Green program adherence to offer healthy options daily.”

Some of the dishes prepared in this fashion were an espresso roast with chimichurri sauce, seasoned potato wedges and grits with shrimp, all coming together to form a symphony of flavors lingering with every bite.

“It’s not a dining facility, it’s a restaurant, and we designed it like a restaurant,” said Irvine.

The 786th FSS welcomes those who serve and support our service members enhancing quality of life through every plate.
