Scholarship applications due soon

The Landstuhl Regional Medical Center Tier III Association is an association of senior noncommissioned officers who work at LRMC. The association enjoys the distinction of being the only Tri-Service Senior NCO organization in the local area, consisting of NCOs from the Army, Air Force and Navy.

The association is currently in the fundraising stage in order to offer two $2,500 scholarships to seniors from the KMC who will be attending college in the fall.
Students must be family members of active-duty personnel or Department of Defense civilians and must be in possession of a valid military dependent ID card.

Other criterion includes:
» LRMC Tier III Scholarship Application Form.  Completed application form may be typed or hand written in blue or black ink. Forms are available at high school guidance counselors’ offices.   

» Original high school transcript. Transcript must be original and signed/stamped as official by counselor or high school admissions office. Current class ranking and GPA should be indicated clearly on transcript.

» Letter of acceptance/letters of intent. Include copies of letters of acceptance/letters of intent from an accredited university or other accredited institution of higher education, signed/stamped by guidance counselor or administration office personnel.

» Guidance counselor memo/letter. Signed memorandum or letter from guidance high school counselor confirming applicant’s good standing and verification that student should graduate in 2009.

» Essay. An essay of no less than 500 words and no more than 750 words, entitled, “If I Were Elected President of The United States.” The content of the essay should address the applicant’s goals, plans and contributions to American society while serving a four-year term as U.S. president. The essay will be in a dot-doc or dot-docx format, use one-inch margins, be double-spaced, and use Times New Roman 12 pitch font.

» Letters of recommendation. Two typed supporting letters of recommendation must be submitted. One letter must be completed by the applicant’s sponsor, and the other must be completed by an adult not related to the applicant. Letters should address why the applicant deserves the scholarship and how he or she has positively separated themselves from others through school and community involvement, academic and athletic achievements, and outstanding moral character.

» Applicant’s list of accomplishments. Completed list of applicant’s awards, achievements, accomplishments and leadership positions held during their high school career, with duration and brief description of each accomplishment or position listed. List should include all academic, athletic, club, social, and community extracurricular activities, and include volunteer hours worked throughout high school career.

» Verification of enrollment from the applicant’s respective university, college, vocational or trade school is required in order to disperse the scholarship
funds.  Upon enrollment verification, funds will be dispersed by the LRMC Tier III Treasurer no later than Sept. 17.    

Completed application packets can be obtained at the school counselor’s offices of Kaiserslautern High School or Ramstein High School. Submission instructions are in the packets. Deadline for submission is May 30.
