Soccer champions play charity game Monday

The championship team of the 1. FC Kaiserslautern from 1991 will play a charity soccer game May 21 in Landstuhl. Under the auspices of Kurt Beck, minister president of Rheinland-Pfalz, the game starts at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the stadium “Am Rothenborn.”

***image1***Former champion players Stefan Kuntz, Pavel Kuka, Bruno Labbadia, Axel Roos and many others will participate for the good cause.

Also, Tom Dooley, who played for the U.S. National Soccer team 81 times, joins the game. Former coach Kalli Feldkamp will be available as well.

The 1991 champions team of the “Red Devils” will play a Lotto team Rheinland-Pfalz consisting of former renowned players such as Horst Eckel (1954 world champion), Wolfgang Overath (1974 world champion), Uwe Beim (1990 world champion), Olaf Marschall and many others.

“I’m sure this game will be the highlight for our town in 2007,” said Landstuhl’s mayor Klaus Grumer.

Net profits will go to “Herzenssache,” a children’s support campaign sponsored by SWR and SR television and radio stations.

The event is considered a family fest with an entertaining program.
Doors open at 2 p.m. A demonstration training session is scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m.

T***image2***he goalkeeper from the female German National Team that won the championship in 2004, Silke Rottenberg, will write autographs 4:30 to 6 p.m. The band Snailshouse and the Original Anton from Tyrol provide musical entertainment 5 to 6 p.m.

Mayor Grumer welcomes the audience at 6:20 p.m. He also inaugurates the new flood lights and the new sound system.

The game starts at 6:30 p.m. and during half time, the Ramstein Junior Highschool Cheerleaders and the dancing guard girls of the Landstuhl Carnival Association perform.

After the game, at 8:20 p.m., the drawing of the raffle winner starts before Snailshouse performs again until the fest ends at 10 p.m.

Tickets for the event cost €5 for adults and €2 for children. Advance tickets are available at the Fritz-Walter soccer stadium in Kaiserslautern, the 1. FCK fan shop on Bremerstrasse 1-5 in Kaiserslautern, the Stadthalle in Landstuhl and at Sporthaus Hechler in Ramstein-Miesenbach.
