Sorority donates $600 to foundation

Beta Sigma Phi

Have you heard of the international women’s sorority called Beta Sigma Phi? Well, let me tell you about it. Recently the BSP Chapters in the KMC along with the Ramstein Air Force Sergeants Association came together because they have something in common – the Kimi Robinson Foundation.

Kimi Robinson was a senior master sergeant in the Air Force stationed at Ramstein before her untimely death in 2001 from a brain aneurism at age 40. Kimi was a wife and mother, a BSP sister and a member of Ramstein AFSA Chapter 1674.

To honor Sergeant Robinson’s legacy, AFSA Chapter 1674 established the Kimi Robinson Foundation in 2002 to provide educational scholarships to E1s to E6s and their dependents. April 18, BSP chapters Alpha Nu, Theta and Preceptor Alpha donated $600 to the Kimi Robinson Foundation.

Such a donation is in keeping with BSP’s long standing tradition of serving the communities where we live. In the past, we have donated funds or services to the USO, Fisher House, LRMC, Special Olympics, Girl Scouts, base post offices and have sent numerous care packages downrange in support of our troops. Yet, the Kimi Robinson Foundation is special, because she was one of us – a “Sister.”

Beta Sigma Phi is not a sorority in the collegiate sense; rather it is an international sisterhood and we call our members “Sisters.”  We are women of all ages, interests and educational and economic backgrounds.  We are the largest organization of our kind in the world; in fact, we have been around since 1931. Our motto is “Life, Learning and Friendship.”

The KMC BSP chapters are comprised of female active duty military members, dependents, civilians/spouses and contractors/spouses. We meet monthly at each other’s homes. On the social front, we shop until we drop, get together for theater performances, fests, movies, spa days and take the occasional trip together … anything fun.

Life in the military can be very unsettling, especially with all the required moving around.  Being a part of a group like BSP ensures a ready group of friends around regardless of where the military – or your life – takes you.  If you are interested in learning more about BSP, check out the International site at www.betasigmaphi.org/index.shtm.
