St. Wendel’s annual arts and crafts market takes place Saturday and Sunday in the center of town.

The city of St. Wendel will host its annual arts market, Sankt Wendeler LebensArt, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The historical streets of the old part of town will turn into a workshop for arts and craftsmanship. More than 90 artisans from throughout Germany, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands will present their works.

“We are happy that our market has such a good reputation in Germany and neighboring countries,” said Peter Klaer, mayor of Sankt Wendel. “We are a city of quality and originality. Artisans have the chance to show off their works outside of museums and galleries.”

Visitors can watch how the artisans create some of their items and ask questions about the different types of techniques they are working with. Visitors will find a variety of ceramics as well as sculptures and objects made of wood, glass, leather, cloth, paper, stone and metal. There will be clothes, hats, purses, jewelry and housing accessories, sound objects and wind chimes of special designs. Some artisans will be able to create clothes or furniture per customers’ requests.

“When you are looking for something very special and unique, you are in the right spot,” said Leonie Paque from St. Wendel city marketing office. “The arts market is a treasure trove for excellent arts and crafts.”

Musical walking acts will entertain visitors in the afternoon.

“Our charming walkplatz with the little street cafes, neat restaurants and fine stores offer the right atmosphere for such a high-class market,” Klaer said.

The city garage will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Plenty of visitors’ parking spots are available on Missionshausstrasse. Follow the sign “Parkleitsystem” leading you to the different parking areas.

St. Wendel is located north of Neunkirchen.
