May carnival closes Monday
The “Maikerwe,” the May carnival on the Messeplatz fairgrounds in Kaiserslautern, continues through Monday. More than 140 ride owners and vendors are offering attractions, merchandise, food and drink specialties. The event closes out with a "thank you" fireworks display at 10 p.m. Monday.

Old town fest in Freinsheim:
Freinsheim's wine growing community will celebrate its annual “Altstadtfest,” or old town fest, Thursday to June 7. Local vintners and caterers start serving specialties at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, when Germans celebrate Corpus Christi Day. Fest hours are from 6 p.m. to midnight June 5, 11:30 a.m. to midnight June 6, and 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 7. There will be a diversified musical program featuring jazz, blues, funk, pop and rock. Sunday shopping will be from 1 to 6 p.m. June 7. The center of town will be closed to motorized traffic. Parking is available at the edge of town and the center is within walking distance. Gartenschau celebrates
The Gartenschau Kaiserslautern will conduct an ecumenical service at 11 a.m. Sunday to observe the 11th anniversary of the willow church. Courtesy photoFountain fest, shopping in NeustadtThe Marktplatz, with its fountain in Neustadt along the German Wine Street, will set the stage for a fountain fest 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. A local foundation will serve wine and broetchen to raise money for the historical renovation and the lighting of the fountain. The slow-food gourmet market will begin at noon. Culinary specialities will include wild ham, wild salmon, olive oil, musician’s bread, vegetarian wurst, handmade pralines, jellies, spices and Italian delicacies. Stores open from 1 to 6 p.m. in the center. In the “Weinstrassenzentrum” business park, several companies and local car dealers will present novelties. A free bus shuttle takes customers from the train station bus stop to the business park every 10 minutes.
