Tips for emergency help

When residents need the assistance of an emergency locksmith after being locked out of their home, the following tips may help prevent ending up with an excessively high bill:

• hen calling a locksmith, ask for an estimate over the phone.

• on’t make any payments before the lock is opened. The locksmith is not allowed to ask for advance payment.

• ou do not have to pay on the spot. If the bill seems too high, get legal advice from the German legal assistance section at an Army or Air Force legal office. They will advise you about the legality of the bill and, if necessary, help you prepare a rebuttal letter to the company.
