Take part in KMC’s Rockin’ Third of July


This year’s KMC Rockin’ Third of July celebration takes place from 2 p.m. to midnight July 3 at Kapaun Air Station.

The event includes musical entertainment, children’s activities, games, food specialties, prizes and a fireworks display.

During the celebration, children can enjoy bumper cars, a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round and bouncy castles. Games include darts, a fishing game, pingpong, and many more. There will also be band performances by Clay Crotts Band, Fishermann’s Friend and Jom Tones.

Private organizations will set up food booths offering barbecue chicken, bratwurst, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, chicken wings, hot dogs, lumpia, pulled pork, schwenksteak, funnel cakes, cotton candy, lemonade and root beer floats.

“Due to safety issues we are asking visitors not to bring coolers, pets or glass,” said Jade Muench, Community Support Flight chief.

A give-away with prizes from private sponsors starts at 8:30 p.m. on stage. Visitors who signed up from 2 to 8 p.m. at the sponsorship tent can win gift cards, cash, furniture gift certificates and a weekend getaway.

The firework show is scheduled to start around 10:30 p.m.

Vogelweh Housing residents are encouraged to walk to the festivities on Kapaun or use Gate Golf 1. Other residents should carpool, if possible. Non-housing residents will not be allowed to park in the housing area. Main parking will be in the big parking lot by vehicle registration.

“We recommend that visitors enter thru golf 5 (Vogelweh main gate). Our visitor center will process visitors faster than Pulaski, 3 to 5 minutes compared to a 15 to 20 minute wait time at Pulaski,” said Capt. Eric DeTurk, 569th U.S. Forces Police Squadron operations officer.

The shuttle pick-up points will be located at the dead end of Pulaski (adjacent to PONDS kennels) and Bldg. 2913/2915 (Pulaski USO center), however be prepared to have to walk moderate distances. Polizei will be enforcing a ticket and towing policy for unauthorized parking on federal street B40/L395 and B270.
