The Housing Hype

Effective immediately, IAW guidance from DoD, the KMC Housing Office will no longer set rental rates for off-base housing units. Local rental contract values will now be established by using “fair market” rental rates within the local communities.

Keep in mind that with the new changes to the off-base housing rental rates, the requirement still exists for the Housing Referral Office to review all housing contract agreements between landlords and tenants. All housing units must be inspected by the HRO to ensure minimum adequacy and safety requirements are met. Housing certification (contract agreement) is required for the approval of Overseas Housing Allowance, Furnishings Management Section support and Living Quarters Allowance entitlements.

The KMC Housing Office still provides landlord/tenant mediation, complete listings of vacant units inspected by HRO, and many other services to our military service members, DoD civilians, DoD school teachers and other qualified customers seeking housing in the local community.

Questions on the new policy and how it will affect you, “the housing customer,” can be addressed to the KMC HRO, Mr. Holger Bauerfeld, at DSN 489-6643 or 6659 or commercial 0631-55319.

The KMC Housing Flight will be closed on Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day, as well as on Nov. 28 and 29 for Thanksgiving. The KMC Housing Office will close at 11:30 on Nov. 13 due to training. The KMC Housing Flight will close at 11:30 on Nov. 19 due to an organizational function. Additionally, the Furnishings Management Section will be closed Nov. 13-15 to conduct the annual FMS inventory.
