Lt. Gen. Craig A. Franklin, 3rd Air Force commander, visited the Airmen of the 86th Airlift Wing April 11 to see firsthand how they keep the base operationally ready.
The visit gave Franklin and his wife Julie, the opportunity to see how the Airmen of the 86th AW work together to support the European and African theater of operations and build strong bonds with partners throughout Europe. This marked the first official visit since the general assumed command March 30.

“Thanks to the 86th for hosting me today. I learned what you do for the entire mission, not only at Ramstein, but across NATO, the United States Air Forces in Europe and the joint coalition partners in the Kaiserslautern Military Community,” said Franklin. “It’s a great team and I appreciate the work of our Airmen who are making the mission happen every day.”

Mrs. Franklin received a separate, more in-depth look at programs available to family members and young Airmen of the KMC. Mrs. Franklin’s visit included Club 7 and the Airmen and Family Readiness Center.

“I’m enjoying it all; the CASF, Club 7 and the flightline,” said Mrs. Franklin. “Seeing the versatility of the wing has been great, I’ve met so many incredible Airmen from the 86th Airlift Wing.” Franklin was accompanied by the 86th AW commander, Brig. Gen. C.K. Hyde, during his visit.

“I am proud to showcase the Airmen who execute our mission of combat airlift and operate the Air Force’s premier installation,” said Hyde. Our Airmen are outstanding and it’s great when we get to show off their abilities while integrating and supporting key capabilities such as global aeromedical evacuation.”
