People are always rotating in and out of the Kaiserslautern Military Community and the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center team wants to be sure newcomers get important information about their healthcare.

Appointments
Using the TRICARE Online Patient Portal at www.tricareonline.com is the easiest way for TRICARE patients to schedule or cancel a medical appointment, 24 hours a day, seven days a week at their own convenience. It’s a great tool because patients can see the available appointments online and choose the one that best fits their schedule. Of course, patients are also welcome to call the Appointment Line Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 06871-9464-5762 (LRMC) or 590-LRMC.

TRICARE Online is for civilians, too
For non-TRICARE patients, like Department of Defense civilian employees and their families, they may not be able to schedule appointments but they can use the Patient Portal at www.tricareonline.com in other ways, like viewing their health information, requesting prescriptions and sending secure messages to their care team through Relay Health. This helpful website also lets patients set up text and email notifications for appointments and medication refills.
Finally, any patient who has registered for Relay Health can also use the TRICARE Online Patient Portal to request appointments by sending a secure message right to their doctor or nurse. Patients can sign up for Relay Health Secure Messaging online through the Patient Portal or by talking to their care team.

When to go to the Emergency Room
If you or your family member has a medical concern that put their life, limbs or eyesight at risk, call 112 for emergency responders or go to the nearest Emergency Room, like LRMC, Sankt Johannis-Krankenhaus in Landstuhl, Westpfalz-Klinikums in Kaiserslautern or the Saarland University Medical Center in Homburg. If you aren’t sure if the medical issue is an emergency, you can also call the Nurse Advice Line 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 0800-825-1600. Some mobile phones may not be able to call a toll-free number so you can also call the LRMC Appointment Line at 06371-9464-5762 (LRMC) or 590-LRMC and choose the option for the Nurse Advice Line. The Nurse Advice Line can help you make decisions about surgery, tests, medical treatments or managing a chronic illness. You can also talk with a nurse about preventing illnesses and improving your family health.
Patients who visit the ER are seen in order of their level of medical need, so some patients may have longer wait times if their medical concern isn’t an emergency. In addition, patients with less urgent concerns may be asked to call the next business day to schedule an appointment with their primary care team.

Open on Training Holidays
Military service members are often very busy during the duty day and it can be difficult to carve out time away from work, even for important medical needs. The LRMC team wants to help ensure local units are meeting their dental and medical readiness. This is why LRMC and their health clinics in Europe, including Baumholder and Kleber, are now open on training holidays. Everyone wants to enjoy their time off, but that free time can also be used to take care of those things that sometimes get moved to the backburner when work gets busy.
This is not only a great convenience for our active duty patients, but it is also better for their health to have their primary care team manage non-life threatening medical issues.

Your feedback improves your care
Finally, the LRMC team wants to hear from our patients. Random surveys like the Joint Outpatient Experience Survey, or JOES, and the TRICARE Inpatient Satisfaction Surveys, or TRISS, are the best ways for us to understand what we are doing well and how we can do better. Patient comments and satisfaction scores help us make changes to improve healthcare and the patient experience.
In addition, positive patient surveys actually bring more money into the organization that we put back into our patients’ experience. Last year, LRMC led all of Army Medicine in customer satisfaction and the completed surveys brought in nearly $1.5 million. LRMC used that funding to provide free Wi-Fi in patient waiting areas, install a breastfeeding privacy pod above the 4 Corners Info Desk and even purchase new medical equipment.
If every patient had returned their surveys, they could have seen it could have been $5.5 million more invested into their care. Please complete your satisfaction surveys to help us continue improving your care.
