Total Force Airmen conduct aeromedical evacuation in Europe

The crew of Total Force Airmen airlifted eight patients via a U.S. Air Force Reserve C-130H that is deployed to Ramstein AB from Minnesota to support tactical airlift missions including aeromedical evacuations. The 86th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron and 86th Medical Group Critical Care Air Transport Teams flew with deployed members of the 96th AS to Poland to transport eight U.S. patients, who were then taken to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center shortly after landing. The 86th Airlift Wing supports several aeromedical evacuation capabilities including the 86th Medical Squadron’s Critical Care Air Transport Team, 86th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, and the 10th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Flight deployed to Ramstein, all of which are capable of providing urgent medical care on many types of aircraft. The active-duty and Reserve Airmen airlifted eight U.S. patients from Poland and transported them to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, for treatment. Last year, the 86th AW’s medical and aircrew teams conducted 144 aeromedical evacuation missions that transported and treated 205 patients. The teams recently flew on an Air Force Reserve C-130H Hercules deployed to Ramstein from the 934th Airlift Wing at Minnesota to transport eight patients from Poland to LRMC. The aeromedical evacuation from Poland to Germany was a Total Force, joint, and multi-national effort, involving U.S. Air Force active duty Critical Care Air Transport Teams stationed at Ramstein AB and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, U.S. Air Force Reserve Airmen and aircraft deployed to Ramstein AB from Minnesota, U.S. Army personnel in Poland, and NATO forces operating in Eastern Europe. The 86th Airlift Wing supports several aeromedical evacuation capabilities including the 86th Medical Squadron’s Critical Care Air Transport Team, 86th AES, and the 10th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Flight deployed to Ramstein, all of which are capable of providing urgent medical care on many types of aircraft.
