U.S. participates in state fair

***image1***The annual Rheinland-Pfalz State Fair takes place June 13 through 15 in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. For the 25th time, cities and union communities of the state of Rheinland-Pfalz as well as military forces will participate in the fair to demonstrate who they are and what they have to offer.

Entertaining programs with live music, dance performances, presentations and displays will be offered on 12 stages and in activity areas in the center of town, the Kurpark and along the banks of the Ahr River.

“The state fair is presented in its full diversity,” said Kurt Beck, minister president of Rheinland-Pfalz. “We expect up to 250,000 visitors.”

The U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force present themselves at the forces near Alte Schule. The KMC will be represented by the 21st Theater Sustainment Command. The 5th Quarter Master Rigging Operation will demonstrate a parachute rigging and display a rigged High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle, a rigged door bundle, a mannequin equipped with complete combat equipment, a container delivery system and a rigged all-terrain vehicle.

The Theater Logistics Support Center – Europe will present its apprenticeship program. Five Soldiers from the 21st TSC and the young apprentices from the TLSC-E will attend the minister president’s military youth reception June 13.

The U.S. Air Force will be represented by Spangdahlem Air Base displaying fire trucks and a mobile dental bus.

The market of cities and counties presents the areas’ cultural, economic and culinary diversity. There will be craftsmanship stands, arts displays and tourist information booths.

A farmers and organic market will be set up along the banks. Farmers and vintners will present their products such as cheese, meat, game, organic juices, bread, wine, oil and fruit.

In Kaiserin-Auguste-Viktoria-Park, a variety of sports will be offered, including dancing, karate, taek won do, aerobics, cheerleading, baseball and Nordic walking.
Entertainment on the stages with various bands will start at 3 p.m. June 13, 10 a.m. June 14 and 11 a.m. June 15.

A special exhibit displaying photos from all previous events to highlight the event’s 25th anniversary is set up in Steigenberger Hotel, Kurgartenstrasse 1.
One highlight is the traditional festival parade from 1 to 5 p.m. June 15. More than 3,500 participants in 130 groups, associations, clubs and bands including the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Marching Band will take part. A fireworks display will close out the festival Sunday night.

Bad-Neuenahr-Ahrweiler is located northwest of Koblenz. Travel north on autobahn A61, exit Sinzig/Bad-Neuenahr. Continue on A 571; then county road B266 takes you into Bad Neuahr-Ahrweiler.

Visitors arriving by car will be directed to P+R parking lots, where the Park and Ride service will be available to and from the festival.

The next Rheinland-Pfalz State Fair will take place July 3 to 5 in Bad Kreuznach.
