SECOND ANNUAL KAISERSLAUTERN COUNTY FAMILY DAY

JUNE 24, CALL FOR KMC PARTICIPATION, CONGRESS CENTER, RAMSTEIN-MIESENBACH

The Union Community of Ramstein-Miesenbach and the County of Kaiserslautern are organizing a day revolving around family, leisure and tourism on June 24 and invite interested KMC parties to participate. Last year a number of KMC groups took part and successfully showcased their clubs and talents. JEWISH EVENING – MELODIES OF LIFE

APRIL 26, 6 P.M., DEUTSCHORDENSAAL/ST. MARTINSPLATZ, KAISERSLAUTERN

Music helped to survive in the ghettos and camps. There are life stories behind Jewish fates composed between 1933-1945. The Emmerich-Smola-Musikschule and Musikakademie will present an excerpt of these stores and melodies at the Jewish Evening. Ben Shalom from Berlin will conduct the ensemble of cellos and saxophones. A workshop will take place prior to the musical performance and a dance group will show folkloristic dances. Admission is free.

GRACE NOTES CONCERT

APRIL 27, 8 P.M., FRUCHTHALLE, KAISERSLAUTERN

The Cape Town Opera Chorus will present music straight from the soul. The chorus is a award winning choir in a number of concert houses in Europe and across Africa. It will present old and new music from Eruope and Africa in contrast mixed with religious and spiritual compositions.

AMATEUR BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

The St. Ingbert Devis, the German-American Institute Saarland and the Saarpfalz Count invite you to an amateur tournament at the Ball Park Wallerfeld. MAY DAY/WITCHES NIGHT

APRIL 30/MAY 1, GERMANY WIDE NATIONAL HOLIDAY

Monday, May 1 is a national holiday with all public offices and stores closed. The night before (April 30) is also known as “witches’ night” where children go around playing tricks and “decorating” yards. Be sure to secure any loose items, such as trash cans, flowerpots, that could be moved or taken away.

Some villages put up a Maibaum, a decorated tree guarded by villagers, and hold dance events.

Ready for a trip up north to Hanseatic Hamburg? The city is celebrating its 834th port anniversary with a colorful and spectacular program on three events days. Over 100 individual events including diverse music performances on five stages, children’s activities, rides, food and beverage, helicopter tours over the port, sailboat cruises and magnificent fireworks to top off the festival. VOLKSPARK-KONZERTE

BEGINNING MAY 14, 11 A.M., VOLKSPARK, KAISERSLAUTERN

May 14 marks the beginning of the series of concerts in the Volkspark will take place every second Sunday, weather permitting. Bring your picnic blanket and a cool drink and enjoy alternating tunes ranging from classic, German folk music, jazz, pop and rock.

FOOTBALL ≠ FUβBALL, UNTIL JUNE 25, DOCU CENTER, RAMSTEIN

Americans brought the “American Way of Life” to Germany, including American football, while Germans had their own “football”. Although both sports sound similar by name, they are completely different when it comes to playing the game. BUNDESGARTENSCHAU 2023 (BUGA 23), UNTIL OCTOBER 8, LUISENPARK/SPINELLI PARK, MANNHEIM

The German National Garden Show bi-annually takes place at alternating locations. This year Luisenpark/Spinelli Park in Mannheim will host the event. The show will display thousands of colorful flower arrangements, offer workshops about plants and animals, presentations on special topics, such as climate change, protection and sustainability, concerts on multiple stages, a talent show for young musicians, activities for children and much more. Over 5,000 individual events are planned on 178 days. Day, annual and group tickets are available, also a great place for school or family excursions. In 2000 Kaiserslautern was the host of the show.
