MAY DAY/WITCHES NIGHT

APRIL 30/MAY 1, GERMANY WIDE NATIONAL HOLIDAY

Monday, May 1 is a national holiday with all public offices and stores closed. The night before (April 30) is also known as “witches’ night” where children go around playing tricks and “decorating” yards. Be sure to secure any loose items that could be taken away. Some villages put up a Maibaum, a decorated tree guarded by villagers and hold dance events. For details, read “ABC in KMC: Walpurgisnacht — Witches’ Night” on page 7.

SECOND ANNUAL KAISERSLAUTERN COUNTY FAMILY DAY

JUNE 24, CALL FOR KMC PARTICIPATION, CONGRESS CENTER, RAMSTEIN-MIESENBACH

The Union Community of Ramstein-Miesenbach and the County of Kaiserslautern are organizing a day revolving around family, leisure and tourism on June 24 and invite interested KMC parties to participate. Last year a number of KMC groups took part and successfully showcased their clubs and talents. KULTURSOMMER RHEINLAND-PFALZ (CULTURAL SUMMER)

Every year the Cultural Department of the State of Rheinland-Pfalz presents a Cultural Summer with a wide range of events. The opening will take place on May 12 in Trier. The city center will turn into on giant open-air stage. There will be theater, art, street acts and music, workshops and games in front of the Basilica. Under the motto “Compass Europe – Let’s go West” there will be bands and theater groups from Luxembourg, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Scotland. A Fringe Theater Festival will take place at Kornmarkt with a circus, physical theater and walking acts. Almost all events are free of cost and outside. BAUMCON – Baumholder Comic Convention
