GERMAN-AMERICAN VETERANS BRUNCH

FEB. 24, 11 A.M. – 4 P.M., BÜRGERHAUS, HÜTSCHENHAUSEN

The first German-American veterans’ meeting will take place, hosted by the Bund Deutscher EinsatzVeteranen (German Veterans Association) under the motto “We who served.” The Reservist Comraderies Hütschenhausen and Ramstein will serve coffee, cake and pea soup and invite anyone, German or American alike, to get to know each other. The organizers of the event would like to use the opportunity to strengthen ties to the U.S. Forces and promote international connections. Singer Jesse Cole and balloon artist “Twisting Armin” will entertain guests, a display with therapeutic horses and dogs (with a focus on PTSD) will take place in the afternoon. Anyone, whether active-duty, veteran or family member is cordially invited to learn more about the initiative and its goals at Bürgerhaus, which will be open for the public that day.

WEINBERGNÄCHTE (WINE NIGHT EVENTS)

FEB. AND MARCH, CITY CENTER/SURROUNDINGS, BAD DÜRKHEIM

The city of Bad Dürkheim has planned a number of exciting events focusing on wine in the upcoming weeks. The series kicks off with a (W)einkaufsnacht (late night shopping) from 6 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 24 when the city center will be illuminated, a spectacular light show and show elements will delight visitors and wine shops will offer tastings. A pyrograph will paint works of art into the sky with diverse music entertainment. On Feb. 24 and 25 a Spring Presentation will take place in the Kurhaus with wine tasting opportunities. The Weinbergnacht is the highlight on March 1 and 2 as an open-air wine tasting and hiking event along six kilometers through the vineyards from Michelsberg to the Roman Villa, along with 21 different booths for delicious snacks along the trail. OSTEREIERMARKT (EASTER EGG MARKET)

MARCH 2 -3, 11 A.M.-6 P.M., WESTPFALZ-WERKSTTÄTTEN, SAUERWIESEN, KL-SIEGELBACH

Twenty hobby artists will display their works out of eggshells, glass and ceramics. You can admire art on eggs, buy them or design your own. Especially children are encouraged to join the fun. There will be a €1 entry fee to be contributed to Westpfalz-Werkstätten, drinks and snack will also be available.

HOMBURG FLEA AND ANTIQUE MARKET

MARCH 2, 8 A.M. – 4 P.M., AM FORUM, HOMBURG

The biggest flea and antique market in southwest Germany, takes place on the first Saturday of the month, in the area known as the Forum, in front of the Homburg Rathaus (town hall) and the Landratsamt. The flea market was launched in 1975 and has developed into the largest in southwest Germany. On peak days in the summer, 1,500 traders offer their wares and attract thousands of visitors to Homburg.

JAPANESE GARDEN OPENING

MARCH 2, 10 A.M. – 4 P.M., LAUTERSTRASSE, KAISERSLAUTERN

Fans of the Japanese Garden und culture can look forward to the official opening March 2. The garden will be open for visitors during daylight hours. Special events such as the “Day of Green” May 4, “Children’s Day” May 5 with the reading of a children’s book are on the schedule. The garden will also participate in the “Lange Nacht der Kultur” (Long light of Culture) June 22 and “Japan Classics” Aug. 18. Dates for the tea ceremonies and yoga classes will be announced soon.

INTERNATIONALER OSTEREIERMARKT (EASTER EGG MARKET)

MARCH 2 – 3, SCHWETZINGEN CASTLE

No two eggs are alike: This is tradition at the Easter Egg Market at Castle Schwetzingen to be held for the 36th time. Fifty artists will amaze visitors with astonishing ornamentally decorated eggs in all sizes from parakeet to ostrich eggs. They will present their techniques and give tip on becoming creative. In most cultures, eggs have been a symbol of fertility and new life, there are not limits to what you can do with eggs. Batik eggs come from Romania, Russia is famous for its wooden pieces, a scratching technique is popular in Slovakia, while eggs are decorated with metal in Hungary. France is famous for porcelain eggs, Italy renowned for glass-blown ones from Murano and English eggs are often made of enamel. The castle and its lovely gardens are well worth a visit of their own. VIVE LA FRANCE, SUNDAYS AT FIVE

FEUERENGEL – A TRIBUTE TO RAMMSTEIN

MARCH 9, 7 P.M., CONGRESS CENTER, RAMSTEIN
