After a two-year pause, the largest Fasching parade in the region is scheduled to take place in Ramstein-Miesenbach on Feb. 21. The organizers “Bruchkatzen” cordially invite any interested groups from the KMC to participate in the fun, whether girl or boy scouts, school classes or dance groups, anyone interested is welcome. MOBILE ICE-SKATING RINK, JAN. 20 UNTIL MID MARch

SCHILLERPLATZ, KAISERSLAUTERN

After a two-year pause, a mobile ice-skating rink will open in the heart of the pedestrian zone in Kaiserslautern. Skate a few rounds, turn pirouettes and enjoy some icy winter fun for the whole family. Skates can be rented and snacks and drinks will also be on sale. Details to be announced.

FASTNACHT/FASCHING/KARNEVAL, STARTING FEB. 16

Thursday, Feb. 16. marks the beginning of the Karneval season in Germany. Thursday is referred to as “Altweiberfastnacht” (old wives’ Fastnacht), where witches steal the keys to the city hall and take over command for the weekend. There are celebrations throughout the weekend and the festival culminates on “Faschingsdienstag” (Shrove Tuesday), as Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. The largest parades take place on Rose Monday, Feb. 20 in the city centers: Köln/Cologne, 10 a.m.; Düsseldorf, 12.30 a.m.; Mainz, 11:11 a.m.; Aachen, 11:11 a.m.; Stuttgart, 12 a.m.; Frankfurt, Sunday, Feb. 19, 12:11 a.m.; Ramstein-Miesenbach, Westricher Fastnacht,Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2:11 p.m., with 50,000 spectators and KMC participation expected.
