The state program “Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz!” will hold its next meeting of the German-American Stammtisch in Ramstein. Mayor Ralf Hechler will be the guest speaker of the evening and give insights into current happenings in the city of Ramstein. The Stammtisch aims at facilitating local German-American exchange and provides a great opportunity for Americans and locals to meet and get to know each other. WEINBERGNÄCHTE (WINE NIGHT EVENTS)

MARCH 1–2 , CITY CENTER/SURROUNDINGS, BAD DÜRKHEIM

The Weinbergnacht is a highlight in the beginning of March as an open-air wine tasting and hiking event along six kilometers through the vineyards from Michelsberg to the Roman Villa, along with 21 different booths for delicious snacks along the trail. OSTEREIERMARKT (EASTER EGG MARKET)

MARCH 2 -3, 11 A.M.–6 P.M., WESTPFALZ-WERKSTTÄTTEN, SAUERWIESEN, KL-SIEGELBACH

Twenty hobby artists will display their works out of eggshells, glass and ceramics. You can admire art on eggs, buy them or design your own. Especially children are encouraged to join the fun. There will be a €1 entry fee to be contributed to Westpfalz-Werkstätten, drinks and snack will also be available.

HOMBURG FLEA AND ANTIQUE MARKET

MARCH 2, 8 A.M.–4 P.M., AM FORUM, HOMBURG

The biggest flea and antique market in southwest Germany, takes place on the first Saturday of the month, in the area known as the Forum, in front of the Homburg Rathaus (town hall) and the Landratsamt. The flea market was launched in 1975 and has developed into the largest in southwest Germany.

JAPANESE GARDEN OPENING

MARCH 2, 10 A.M.–4 P.M., LAUTERSTRASSE, KAISERSLAUTERN

Fans of the Japanese Garden und culture can look forward to the official opening March 2. The garden will be open for visitors during daylight hours. Special events such as the “Day of Green” May 4, “Children’s Day” May 5 with the reading of a children’s book are on the schedule. The garden will also participate in the “Lange Nacht der Kultur” (Long light of Culture) June 22 and “Japan Classics” Aug. 18. Dates for the tea ceremonies and yoga classes will be announced soon.

INTERNATIONALER OSTEREIERMARKT (EASTER EGG MARKET)

MARCH 2–3, SCHWETZINGEN CASTLE

No two eggs are alike: This is tradition at the Easter Egg Market at Castle Schwetzingen to be held for the 36th time. Fifty artists will amaze visitors with astonishing ornamentally decorated eggs in all sizes from parakeet to ostrich eggs. They will present their techniques and give tip on becoming creative. In most cultures, eggs have been a symbol of fertility and new life, there are not limits to what you can do with eggs. Batik eggs come from Romania, Russia is famous for its wooden pieces, a “scratching technique is popular in Slovakia, while eggs are decorated with metal in Hungary. France is famous for porcelain eggs, Italy renowned for glass-blown ones from Murano and English eggs are often made of enamel. The castle and its lovely gardens are well worth a visit of their own. PALZ PEPPER CONCERT

MARCH 9, 6 P.M., FRIEDENSKIRCHE, KURT-SCHUMACHER-STR. 56, KAISERSLAUTERN

PALZ PEPPER is an all-women’s choir that performs in a cappella and barbershop style. The choir has inspired its audiences for 35 years and is well-known beyond the region. This special concert is in honor of International Women’s Day on March 8 and addresses sisters, brothers, girls, women and people around the world. Don’t miss out on love keeping us together!

String quintet “Subito,” with concert master Laurentiu Candea and solo artists Sigrun Haaser and Barbara Buffy, will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria in D, RV 589 and Josef Haydn’s “The seventh last words of our savior.”

The market invites visitors to shop on Sunday, welcome the first colors of spring and enjoy a coffee in rays of sunshine. A creative market with handmade goods will take place in the historic district and children are invited to the bouncy castle and a carousel.
