FRÜHLINGSFEST (SPRING FEST)

MARCH 24, 1-5 P.M., TOWN CENTER, WINNWEILER

Winnweiler will host a colorful spring fest with music, crepes, sweets and snacks, fresh oven baked bread and refreshments. There will be a Zumba performance, a trampoline, a balloon artist, games for kids and face painting. Shops will be open and the fest offers fun for all.

MAINZER RHEINFRÜHLING (SPRING FAIR)

MARCH 23-APRIL 7, RHEINUFER FROM KAISERTOR TO KURFÜRSTENBRUNNEN, MAINZ

Take a trip to Rheinland-Pfalz’s capital, enjoy the cathedral, visit ancient museums, charming old town, stroll over the colorful produce and flower market on weekends and round off your visit at the Spring Fair along the Rhein River. There will be lots of exciting rides, drinks and bites, a haunted mansion and a virtual reality movie theater. Or, enjoy a ride on the ferris wheel with a magnificent view over the 2,000 year old city. The fair will be open for two weeks, with the exception of Good Friday (March 29). FRÜHLINGSMARKT (SPRING MARKET)

MARCH 24, CITY CENTER, NEUSTADT/WEINSTRASSE

Enjoy a colorful spring market in charming Neustadt/Weinstrasse along with a “pink glow in the glass.” There is a lot to discover at the bright booths, such as regional specialties, French, Greek and Italian dishes, honey, olive oils, spices, salmon and Alsatian tarte flambée. Flower lovers can delve on spring flowers, garden herbs, fragrant plants, chili plants and decoration items for indoors and outdoors. Shops will be open for Sunday shopping, so enjoy spring with all your senses. Round off your visit with a relaxing train tour from Kaiserslautern along romantic Neustadt Valley, the market is within walking distance of the train station.

HINKELSTEIN HIKING MARATHON/TRAIL

MARCH 24, 7.30 A.M., ABTEIKIRCHE, OTTERBERG

It’s the last chance to sign up for the marathon. The start times are 7:30-8 a.m. for the marathon, 8-9 a.m. for the half marathon and 9-9:30 a.m. for the trail. Be there! EASTER AT THE GARDEN SHOW

MARCH 31, 11 A.M.-7 P.M., GARTENSCHAU/NEUMÜHLEPARK, KAISERSLAUTERN

The Easter Bunny was busy and hid eggs and sweets for children to hunt for from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Starting point at the Bistro Neumühlepark. At 2 p.m. the Gospelsingers from Schopp will hold a concert with traditional gospels, spirituals, musical tunes, pop and film music for everyone to sing along. DISCOVERY TOUR IN ENGLISH

APRIL 6 , 11.15 A.M., CASIMIR SAAL (CITY HALL), KAISERSLAUTERN

The guided tour includes a visit inside the Casimir Saal, located just below the City Hall. It is approximately 1.5 hours and leads through the underground illuminated tunnel with information and sound effects about the history of Kaiserslautern. FLIEGERSTRASSE/BLUTACKER/AMIWISSJE (EXHIBITION)

Step back in time and explore the history of the U.S. settlement on Kaiserslautern’s northern slope! From the 1950s until its demolition and reconstruction in 2011, this area was unique not only due to its close proximity to German residential areas but also for shaping the cityscape. The exhibition features historical photos, artifacts, and personal memories, providing a glimpse into this special residential area in ‘K-town.’ Join us for a journey through time and culture. The grand opening with musical entertainment is on March 16 at 2 p.m.

JAPANESE GARDEN

UNTIL OCT. 31., LAUTERSTRASSE, KAISERSLAUTERN

The garden is open for visitors during daylight hours. Special events such as the “Day of Green” May 4, “Children’s Day” May 5 with the reading of a children’s book are on the schedule. The garden will also participate in the “Lange Nacht der Kultur” (Long light of Culture) June 22 and “Japan Classics” Aug. 18.
